Rock On

00290big_240x360ROCK & REPUBLIC is moving on. Originally a denim brand made famous when it launched a collection created by a certain former Spice Girl, company president Andrea Bernholtz insists the brand has come a long way since Mrs Beckham.

“The capsule collection with Victoria really came about very naturally,” It was an easy thing to do – because she was a friend and liked the product – but that was for then. I really think celebrity collaborations have seen their height. It was a long time ago, we’re doing something new now.”

That they are. The business has expanded over the past few years from a jeans label only concerned with embellishing your bottom to a multi-faceted luxury house keen to colonise your make-up bag, shoe cupboard, home and even dog’s basket. Berholtz confessed the brand started “as a hobby” – but has watched it grow in to a global phenomenon.

“We have dressed Ciara for her latest tour, Beyoncé wore the make-up for her tour,” Berholtz said. “We’re very fortunate because people from Miley Cyrus to Steve Tyler are fans and that helps customers see that anyone can wear it.”

“Farrah Fawcett, God rest her soul, was a huge fan,” Bernholtz revealed before asserting that this year’s collection will again have the same understated California sexiness that Fawcett became famous for, when it takes to New York’s catwalks in September.
